Celebrate

"By celebrating, we reinforce the idea that supplier diversity makes good business sense. We recognize that  corporates and suppliers excel due to supplier diversity initiatives and we advocate their leadership by providing Brand Exposure through SASDC communication channels"

At the SASDC, we believe that celebrating supplier diversity successes - both big and small - is an important element of growing the buy-in and advocacy for it. By showing stakeholders that working with a black supplier helped generate value or secure a client win can give them the inspiration to do the same within the market and development opportunities that they manage. Ultimately, highlighting success with black suppliers makes it harder for individuals to ignore the power of building relationships with them.

By developing and promoting a culture that understands how to celebrate its supplier diversity successes, people will remain motivated, achievements will be valued more completely, and deeper relationships will be forged amongst interested and affected parties. Celebrating success motivates you to achieve more, creates a cumulative record of accomplishments, and it becomes almost effortless to generate the positive momentum you need to move forward. When our members and supplier celebrate their success, they are not only acknowledging their own success, they are also acknowledging all those that work with them and contributed to achieving their goal.

Capacitate

"We build corporate member and certified supplier capacity and avail Best Practices, Tools & Expertise related to supporting and enhancing the implementation of effective Supplier Diversity Development"

“More than at any other time, the situation that confronts our nation and country, and the tasks we have set ourselves, demand that we inspire and organize all our people to act together as one, to do all the things that have to be done, understanding that in a very real sense, all of us, together, hold our own future in our hands. As we act together everywhere in our country, this we must also understand that what we have to be about is – business unusual.”

Thabo Mbeki (2008)

Today, businesses face rapid change like never before. Globalization has increased the markets and opportunities for more growth and revenue. However, increasingly diverse markets have a wide variety of needs and expectations that must be understood if they are to become strong customers and collaborators. Concurrently, scrutiny of stakeholders has increased. Thus, the ability to manage change, while continuing to meet the needs of stakeholders, is a very important skill required by today's leaders and managers. It is less about just “doing the right thing” and more about creating a climate where everyone’s qualities and talents are leveraged in a way that propels the organization closer to their business goals.

It is in line with this that the SASDC provides platforms for knowledge sharing and capacity building for both our corporate members and certified suppliers – it is vital that both parties are enabled to drive their common goals.

Certify

"We verify key credentials of our certified Black Suppliers through a Proprietary Due-Diligence Methodology that the SASDC developed in collaboration with our Corporates & other Strategic Partners"

What is Certification?

Black supplier undergo a rigorous certification process that is approved by the SASDC’s members.  It is a collectively endorsed methodology and standard for assessing and certifying black suppliers with whom they would be prepared to transact. This database:

• Is owned, managed and maintained by the Council.
• Only contains bona-fide black suppliers that have been certified as “transaction-ready” to do business with Council members.
• Is aligned with the supplier assessment and vetting processes that Council members would normally undertake with all their new suppliers.
• Is aimed at reducing the cost and time that would be expended independently by each of the council members in the absence of such a database.

Connect

"Recognising that Buying is dependent on the relationship, we reliably foster business networks and relationships by Connecting Corporates & certified Black-owned Businesses"

Trust and linkages are inextricably intertwined within a supply chain. Organizations without linkages have little reason to “trust” each other, even if they do not “distrust” the other party. Conversely, trust might not be important if re-enforcement mechanisms exist to ensure compliance with a given set of rules governing their relationship (for example, contracts and other legal regulations). However, in the absence of an effective mechanism of enforcement, linkages without trust are invariably weak.

At the SASDC, we understand that “learning to trust is one of life’s most difficult tasks” (Isaac Watts: 1674 – 1748). and As a result trust can be a major barrier for black businesses seeking to provide competitive solutions to new procurement decision-makers. Research has shown that sustainable business relationships are more than just a transaction. Building trust requires investing time and resources into getting to know your prospective business partner. One of our primary objectives is bringing together corporates and black-owned suppliers under the best possible circumstances to explore opportunities for doing business with each other. To this end, and in line with the “Connect” principle of our business model, we facilitate events and interventions that are aimed at cultivating trust as a conscious relationship development strategy that will enable the delivery of value-adding supplier diversity outcomes.

Strategic Partners

Since its establishment in 2011, the SASDC has engaged with numerous organisations and government departments with the objective of promoting the inclusion and development of black owned businesses and their successful and sustainable integration into a growing, competitive mainstream economy.  To this end, we are proud to have formal associations with the several strategic role players that play a critical role in shaping the future of the South African economy.

The purpose of our MOU is to provide a framework of cooperation and facilitate collaboration between the Parties, in areas of      common interest, specifically in providing technical support to the DTI for the promotion of inclusive growth as well as trade     and industry in South Africa.
